WCOOP 2008

This September is shaping up to be a “staycation” – book your vacation time off work, but there’s no need to travel. The World Championship of Online Poker returns in September at PokerStars, bigger than ever, including new events and at least $30 million in guaranteed prize money across 33 events. The 2008 WCOOP Main Event alone guarantees at least $10 million in prize money, so is definitely not to be missed!

The 2008 WCOOP starts on September 5, and runs until September 22. You can qualify through our cash, Frequent Player Point (FPP), Sit & Go and Steps satellites. Steps start at $7.50 or 500 FPP.  Other satellites begin at $2.20 or 100 FPP.

PokerStars presents Battle of the Planets.

PokerStars is proud to present a fresh new challenge for their thriving Sit & Go player community.

In addition to their popular weekly, monthly and yearly multi-table (MTT) Tournament Leader Boards, currently paying out over $1M in prize money each year, their new Battle of the Planets weekly Sit & Go Tournament Leader Boards will provide more players with the chance to have their skills recognized…and rewarded.

The Sit & Go tournaments are split into eight divisions – named after the planets in our solar system – each covering a different level of buy-in, ranging from $1 - $2.99 (Mercury) all the way up to $300+ (Jupiter). To make things fair for the different types of Sit & Go players, within each division there are both a Low Orbit and High Orbit Leader Board.

To be eligible to chart on the Low Orbit Leader Board, you only need to play 20 tournaments in a week, in a particular division. The High Orbit Leader Board requires a larger number of tournaments to be eligible for the rankings – at least 100 in a particular division in a week. And if you play at different levels, you can win prize money in as many divisions as you like! Every week the Battle of the Planets Leader Boards will award more than $50K in prize money:

PokerStars launches the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT)!

PokerStars is proud to announce the launch of Latin America’s first major poker tour, the PokerStars LAPT.

The tour kicks off in the beautiful beach city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from May 3-5, 2008. This three-day tournament will be the largest poker tournament ever held in Brazil with 250 players competing for a total prize pool of over $600,000. Be sure to play for your package worth $5,000.

Among the poker professionals and enthusiasts taking part, Team PokerStars Pros Andre Akkari from Brazil and Humberto Brenes from Costa Rica will be attending.
